How to develop communication skills

How to Develop Communication skills that impress everyone, is based on my own experiences are a trainer, educator and writer. The basic ingredients that highlight your speech and impress everyone, is how communication is perceived for most. But communication skills are much more than that. Every interaction whether within family or social group or at office requires the content to be conveyed is least distorted and understood the way expressed. For communication skills to develop it is very important to have good listening skills too.

Communication skills

Communication skills are a combination of speech, tone, pitch, volume and speed. Every aspect has its own importance, for emphasis the volume and pitch are raised for assertion tone is increased and based on the listener the speed and speech details are decided. When you communicate with kids , verbose language would fall flat. But talking to kids also requires immense communication skills.

Some Point To Help On How To Develop Communication Skills

Here are some point to help on how to develop communication skills that impress everyone:

1Listen peacefully and patiently

Listening is most important to understand how to initiate communication with a certain group of people. The more you listen, more you get idea on what is required from you. And what does the listener want to know. Listening will give you the necessary time to think and reflect, what and how you should communicate.

2Contain hand gestures

For a more formal setting, restrict the hand and face movements to avoid loss of interest. The more you move your hands or face, the more will be distraction and lesser chances of your communication to be successful.

3Body language

“Actions speak louder than words”. Body language matters a lot. Make yourself accessible and open to listening. Your body language shows if you have any interest in the communication. Your body language is the non verbal communication that initiates even before the actual communication starts. Sometimes in interviews and conferences, just the body language makes your candidature accepted or rejected.

4Tell a story

It is important to catch the interest of the listener all through the communication process. Speak as if you have a story to tell. Every sentence gives way to the next sentences and the progress should be so organic that there is no distraction in between

5Make relationships

Heard of the softer skills? Those skills are the challenging and most rewarding in any kind of communication. Express your emotions and words so strategically that you make strong associations when you talk. Remember everyone likes being greeted, been asked about the day and appreciated for their good deed. Remember to compliment and highlight all those. Make relationships with your words. The more comfortable you make your communication, the better it will be

6KISS

Keep it simple and sweet. The clarity and simplicity in your communication will help in conveying the exact form of your speech to the listener. Simple and short statements always help in better understanding and clarity. Remember, it’s more important to convey correctly rather than showcasing your literary brilliance.

7Cut the small talk

When in a business conversation, do not over indulge in small talks. Ice breaking is great, but unnecessary small talks may result in loss of interest. Time bound communication processes are even more critical of this. Remember to be precise.

8Tailor based on audience

The communication skills are dependent on the audience you are communicating with. For every group there will be different ways you communicate. You definitely don’t talk to friends the way you will talk at the office. Keep the other persons perspective in mind when you talk. Its not just you telling it all, but the person listening has to accept and understand it too.

9Do not attack the listener

Your communication must be such that the listener does not get attacked. Do not confront or argue, but a healthy discussion can do the trick

10Smile and show interest

When you communicate, keep smiling and appreciating others. The more interested you seem, the more enthusiastic the listeners will be. Always maintain a positive attitude

11Think before you speak

It is very important to think and plan what you have to speak. When you plan ahead, you get time to think and formulate the communication in a healthy way than can be understood well. If you don’t think there are chances you may lose the very reason you were communicating for, in the first place.

12Accept others point of view

Everyone has their opinions, so it is important to listen and appreciate them. Remember the others point of view will be a sign that your communication has been heard. Try to take the best from your audience and explain more than confront
