  • Hot distilled water, not boiling – 1 tablespoon
  • Vitamin C powder- 1/2 teaspoon
  • A tablespoon and a 1/2 teaspoon
  • One small glass bowl

Note- vitamin C powder usually meant for oral use can even clog your pores and causes rashes on your skin. The best is to do a patch test, test the powder on the skin to see if it causes any irritation

3. Transfer the basic vitamin C serum to your tinted glass container.

Use a funnel spout, place it in the center of the bottle and pour the serum into the funnel. Try to avoid spilling any of the serum. Properly seal the bottle and store it in the refrigerator for up to two weeks. (R)

  • Vitamin C kept in a cold and dark atmosphere will help to keep the vitamin C serum in the refrigerator fresh and potent.
  • You can repeat this procedure whenever you run out of serum and want a new one.

2. Moisturizing Vitamin C serum

I.List of ingredients

As mentioned above. You can get all of the ingredients that you will need from a health food store or a well-stocked grocery store to make moisturizing vitamin C serum. Let’s get started

  • Vitamin C powder- 1/2 teaspoon
  • Hot distilled water, not boiling – 1 tablespoon
  • 2 tablespoons of non-comedogenic oil OR vegetable glycerin.
  • Vitamin E oil- 1/4 teaspoon
  • essential oil such as rose, lavender, frankincense, or geranium oil- 5-6 drops
  • Spoons to measure
  • One bowl for mixing all the ingredients
  • One small whisk
  • One small funnel to transfer the serum to the glass container
  • Tinted dark-colored glass container to store the serum

Note- Hempseed oil, argan oil, sunflower oil, or calendula oil are non-comedogenic oils that will not clog your pores when you use them.

II.Make a mixture of vitamin C powder and water

In one tablespoon of hot water mix half a teaspoon of the vitamin C powder and let it dissolve. Place the tablespoon of hot water in the bowl and then add half a teaspoon of vitamin C powder to the water. Let the water and vitamin C powder mix together and then whisk them.

III.Mix in two tablespoons of vegetable glycerin or oil.

To the water add the vegetable glycerin or any non-comedogenic oil with a vitamin C powder mixture. Vegetable glycerin and non-comedogenic oils are beneficial to your skin and they both work great as a base for the vitamin C serum. Although, as a barrier, some people like to use oil because it is similar to the sebum on our skin. Sebum acts as a protective barrier to your skin

IV.Add ¼ teaspoon of vitamin E oil

Vitamin E is great for your skin and hair it helps to soften your skin. This ingredient is optional, but it would be beneficial if you would like the serum to have more moisturizing qualities.

V.Include 5-6 drops of any essential oil

Add a few drops of essential oil, it can add a nice aroma and enhance the properties of your vitamin C serum as well. If you do not want to add the essential oil, then you can just move on to the next step.

VI.Mix the ingredients well

Mix the oil with the vitamin C powder and water, and use a fork or whisk to make the mixture. Keep mixing until all of the ingredients are well-combined. Remember that oil will eventually separate from water over time so you will need to shake your vitamin C serum before using it.

VII.Use the funnel to transfer the moisturizing vitamin C serum to the tinted container

Now, transfer the vitamin C serum by making use of the funnel by adding it to your dark-tinted glass container. Also, use a spatula to remove any excess serum from the bowl and then pour it into the funnel. Seal the lid of your container once you have transferred all of the serum to the bottle.

You need to make a fresh batch of the moisturizing vitamin C serum every three days because the basic vitamin C serum will last for up to two weeks. You can also store your vitamin C serum in the refrigerator for up to a week if you want the serum to last for a good amount of time

Even though the serum will be somewhat protected from light in a dark-tinted glass bottle, you can make use of the tin foil and wrap it up to make sure that no light can get to the serum at all.

II.Test the serum on a small patch of your skin

Before using the serum for the first time, it is best to do a patch test on a small portion of your skin to make sure that it is not too acidic. Place a small amount on the inside of your wrist and wait a few hours to see if you have any bad reaction to your skin.

  • Do not use the serum if you notice any redness or a rash after using it.
  • If you notice any burning or tingling, then you can add a little more water to the serum to reduce the acidity.
